Testing and assessment

Assessment is a mandatory part of all curricula/work programs.  If assessment is not completed, students will not be able to be rated unless Extenuating Circumstances/ Special Consideration procedures have been followed. This has serious consequences for Senior Students. According to Queensland Studies Authority requirements, they will receive an E rating for a non-submitted assessment item, therefore, impacting on the Senior Certificate (QCE) and pathways to further learning or employment.  The school has a draft system in place to ensure all students are able to hand in all pieces of assessment. Failure to submit a draft will result in lunchtime and afternoon detentions until a satisfactory piece is submitted.

Extenuating circumstances / special consideration

Should unforeseen and difficult circumstances occur, the student is expected to see the relevant Head of Department:

  • Before due date of the draft or final assignment

  • With a note from parents/guardian

  • With notes/preparation material to be shown to the HOD

  • NB Computer and printer malfunctions are not valid reasons for extensions

Difficult circumstances include:

  1. Extended absence due to illness supported by a medical certificate or parental communication.

  2. Absence due to illness, bereavement & special circumstances on or leading up to the due date

These are to be supported by a medical certificate or through parental communication. A complete copy of the school’s assessment and assignment policy is included in enrolment packages.  This information is also available from the school website.
