Show Team August Report

​Over the past 3 weeks the Show Team have attended 3 agricultural shows to have our Suffolk sheep judged against other schools and breeders. 

Gatton Show - 8 students attended the show on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th July. Friday night the junior judging competition was held and Christine Jones placed 2nd, Jen Secker 3rd and Tiarnah Robinson 5th. Saturday the sheep judging took place with 4 schools and a number of breeders displaying their best animals.  Our ram lambs were awarded 1st and 2nd place and our ewe lamb 1st place and Champion Ewe. This has been our most successful year at this show and the breeders and judge were very impressed with our animals.

Mt Gravatt – Saturday 27th July we headed to Mt Gravatt for showing against 4 other schools. This was another successful show with the following awards:
  • Ram lamb – 1st and 3rd place
  • Ewe lamb – 4th place
  • 2 tooth Ewe – 1st, 3rd and 4th places
  • Breeders Group (a Ram and 2 Ewes that he could be bred with) – 2nd 
  • Progeny Group (Ewe or Ram and 2 of their offspring) – 2nd and 4th 
We were also awarded Champion Ram, Reserve Champion Ewe and Most Successful School. 

Pine Rivers Show – Sunday 4th August was the 3rd show in a row for the show team, and our most successful yet. The judge, Craig Turner, commended us on our flock and their improvement over the past 2 years and also on our students judging and handling skills. Jen Secker won the junior class of the Junior Judging competition and was rated amongst the top of the senior class. Josh Frost placed 2nd in this class and Jordan Bradley 4th in the Senior class. Jen also placed 2nd in the junior handlers competition and Sam Wait 2nd in the seniors. We won first place in every class that we entered, with the following great results:
  • Ram lamb – 1st place
  • Ewe lamb – 1st, 2nd and 4th places
  • 2 tooth ewe – 1st, 2nd and 3rd places
  • 4 tooth ewe – 1st and 5th place
  • Breeders Group – 1st and 4th  
  • Progeny Group – 1st and 3rd
Our ram lamb won Champion Ram and we were awarded Champion and Reserve Champion Ewe for our 2 tooth ewe and ewe lamb. Our 2 tooth ewe was also selected as Supreme Sheep of the Show
