Show Team - Ekka News

On Tuesday 13th August, 9 students made the trip into the ekka where they stayed for 5 days to care for our 12 sheep (including 2 lambs) and represent the school to the general public. They spoke with visitors of all ages about farming, the Suffolk breed, our school and their experiences in the show team. They were great representatives of our school and we received many compliments about our students, sheep and display. Some of our junior show team students came in on the Friday to participate in the judging of the sheep and the Junior Judging competition. Being our last show of the year it was great to end on a high note with the following awards:
  • Ram lambs 1st and 3rd places
  • Ewe lambs 2nd, 3rd and 4th places
  • 4 tooth ewes 1st
  • 4 tooth ewe with lambs 1st place
We were also awarded Champion School Suffolk Ewe with Lola – who then decided to have her twin lambs on Saturday morning at the ekka! In Junior Judging for sheep Tom Forshaw made it to the finals for the juniors and Christine Jones made the finals for the seniors. Both were awarded Highly Commended. Some of the students staying in for the week also competed in other junior judging competitions, with Jen Secker receiving a Highly Commended in the Dairy Goat section.

It has been a great show season for our Suffolk sheep, thanks to the hard work of the students and staff involved with the show team. Our next event is an Animal Nursery at Red Fest so it would be great to see you there!
