Cleveland District State High School has a firm commitment to the development of information technology and the integration of technology throughout all subjects and year levels. Our computer to student ratio is better than the state target of 1:5 and the school is fully cabled with broadband access to the Internet. Students all have individual user accounts with their own email accounts.
The school website incorporates an enormous amount of general information about the school as well as current newsletters, information on events, and assessment and assignment planners for all grades.
A full computer laboratory is available for student use at the library. Students can print their work in colour.
There are specialist computer labs for Science (Robotics), Graphics (Computer Aided Drawing), Social Science (Geographic Information Systems), Art (Multimedia and 3D animation), and Music (composition and sound recording).
A computer club operates after school and lunchtimes for boys interested in creating their own games. GiTECH (Girls into Technology Education at Cleveland High) is an after-school ICTs program for girls. Students compete in national computer competitions such as those run by the University of New South Wales.
The school’s Business Education and Computing faculty offers students a full range of Business and Information Technology subjects.
Business Computing (Years 9 and 10) provides opportunities for students to develop their computing skills using major applications such as word processing, spreadsheeting, database and desktop publishing.
Business Communication and Technologies (Years 11 and 12) provides students with the opportunity to complete Certificate II in Business (BSB20101) while completing an OP subject. Students taking this course make maximum use of computers.
Information Processing and Technology (Years 11 and 12) provides students with the opportunity to study information processing and associated technologies. The course deals with the way that computer programming is used to structure, store, access and communicate information and explores the social and ethical implications of the rapidly increasing use of computers in society.
Computer Studies (Years 11 and 12) provides students with the opportunity to complete both Certificate I in Information Technology (CNIT3) and Certificate II in Information technology (ICA20199). This is a practical course that allows students to develop computer skills that will prepare them for effective participation in the workplace as responsible users of technology.
