After a tough round last week in the GBS competition, Cleveland bounced back with a vengeance last Saturday against Kenmore State High.
The Senior Girls touch football team leapt clear at the top of the table with a resounding win. The girls scored touchdowns at the rate of every two minutes winning the game 20 to nil. The game was set up early by Britney Turnbull and Kyiah Jones, then the important role from the bench of maintaining momentum was cemented by Charlotte Patu, Coby Imber and Ellie Gorogo. From all the good work it seemed that Deni Sims and Nikki Jones were in direct competition of who was going to score the most touchdowns. Coach Soldatenko, said that she had not before seen everyone who played get their name on the scorecard. Congratulations girls.
The senior boys basketball had their first win of the season thanks to some good work in training and then finally coming together as a team. Outstanding scoring by Alex Tucker and Jarran McNamara set the home side on its way and this confidence was passed on to younger players Cody Danielson- Jenson, Ryan Yue and Kein Yia who contributed in the best possible way, on the score card. The senior girls fought out a draw after leading with two minutes to go. The girls held on against a team that seemed to be bigger across all positions. Kirsty Mc Masters stood out as someone who controlled the game well with support from the bench from Aimee Grant and Zoe Prector.
Both middle boys and girls Touch Football teams won their games . The boys did it a lot tougher than the girls after Kenmore finished with a flurry outscoring Cleveland in the second half. Cleveland had established a lead that was just enough to hold the visitors off eight - seven. Man of the match honours was shared by Norton Kelly- Boxall and Jye Irwin. The middle girls team started slowly but soon hit their straps and established good combinations with Dakota Jones and Alana Elisaia. Our girls finished six- two.
Next weekends games see us away to Wynnum North. |
