Cleveland dominate Wynnum North in GBS sport

Cleveland teams played strongly at home against Wynnum North with comfortable wins in Soccer and Netball and honours shared in Volleyball.

Senior girls Netball have improved throughout the season and were rewarded with a first up win 37-10. Emma Mc Mullin led the way with outstanding shooting supported by accurate passing from Maddy Haak. Kylie Steward and Alana Elisia have shown continuous improvement in their first season playing Netball.

An unbeaten run continues for the senior girl’s Soccer team winning 5-0. The girls dominated possession with Tylah Benfer delivering quality ball which allowed wave after wave of attack against the outclassed Wynnum team. A hat trick by Kirsty McMaster with three superbly taken long range strikes was the highlight.

The senior boy’s soccer team bounced back from recent narrow losses for a comfortable 9-1 win against a very physical Wynnum side. Jake Piva, James Howitt and Jamie Wilson controlled the game through excellent defence and possession in the middle of the field.

Middle girl’s looked to be in control throughout despite leading narrowly 2-1 for most of the game. The girls were rewarded for their persistence with a number of late goals to finish with a 6-1 win. Jaimie Lee led the way with a hat trick and Danielle Stanley played well in defence.

In Volleyball, the Middle school boys led in each set before lack of confidence in controlling the ball allowed Wynnum to overtake them for a 3-0 loss. Keiran Edmunds and Jordan Pullen were Cleveland’s most consistent players.

The Senior Boys proved far too strong and steady to power away to win in straight sets. Justin Hunt played a good all court game. Scott Commadeur delivered excellent sets to the spikers and Neil Henderson served strongly. The boys enter the finals as favourites after losing only one set all season.

Senior boys Volleyball and Senior Girls soccer are certain finalists next week while a number of teams will have a nervous wait on the results of other games.
