This is how 8RecR works:
Once a fortnight, each Year 8 class comes to the Library for a sustained silent reading session. (During this session, students can also return and borrow 8RecR books.)
They might choose to read something they have brought from home which has been approved by their classroom teacher. They can choose books from the general library shelves after checking its suitability with their classroom teacher.
OR, they can select from the special 8RecR collection which consists of high interest books for their readership and is for the exclusive use of Year 8 students.
To help students make their selections, the 8RecR collection is divided into themes and kept on separate shelves in the reading area of the Library.
Because it is important to talk about books you are reading, classroom teachers will follow this up in the classroom along with any record keeping and reward system for reading completed.
