Cleveland Touch teams again had most success in this week's round of GBS Sport against Wynnum North.
The Senior girls completed a clean sweep of the Touch competition with their 8 to 3 win. With slick combinations in attack, particularly by Natalie Soldatenko and Carla McConnell and solid defence by Kiah Jones and Caitlin Harris, they were too strong in the top of the table clash. The Senior Boys finally found the right combinations to get their first win of the season by 2 tries. Good work came from Mark Haslet, Leigh Steeples and Jas Nijar in another improved display. In Yr 8&9 Touch the Boys again faltered at the end after having the scores tied up at 8 all with minutes to play. Daniel Thomson and Jackson Brigg had great games. The Girls struggled with lack of players but battled on well to keep the score close in their loss. Both teams have shown great improvement, troubling every team in the competition.
In Basketball games, the Open Girls led at half time in an entertaining game but tired in the later stages to lose by 8. Bree Bolton had a fine game while Riley Thornton showed great improvement. Improved shooting by the Open boys made them more competitive in a fast paced game that stretched defences. Lachlan McGuire and Daniel Holden had strong games. Both Yr 8&9 teams had many scoring opportunities but struggled to convert in the blustery conditions. Kyra Spierings played well for the Yr 8&9 Girls, while Ralph Valencia was consistent in the boy’s best team game of the season.
The Senior Girls now move on as favourites to the finals at Kenmore in a fortnight.
The Saturday GBS competition resumes in the winter season in Term 3 with Soccer, Netball and Volleyball. |
