Cleveland teams battled hard against Albany Creek in fine but windy conditions in this week's round of GBS Sport.
After exploding out of the blocks with a try in under 20 seconds, the Senior Girls dominated their opposition to run out winners by 15 in a superb display of Touch Footy. With seven tries to Brittany Turnbull and great team support work from all others, the girls showed they are on another level in this competition. The Yr 8&9 Girls led until the last minutes before going down by 1 in a heartbreaker. Dakota Jones had a great game while Taylor Fitch, Ashleigh Frazier and Keara Coghill showed great improvement.
Both Boys Touch teams showed some good attacking moves but were unable to contain their opposition in defence. Norton Kelly-Boxall and Trent Eveans were best for the Yr 8&9’s while Luke and Chris Atkins played well and Brett Millianis showed improvement for the Seniors.
In close Basketball games, made more difficult by the swirling winds, the Cleveland teams finally found a winner in the Senior Girls. With a full roster at last and improved offence, the girls showed some great teamwork to consistently set up attacks . Brittany Byrnes showed continued improvement while Emily Gielnik led the scoring. The Senior Boys almost caused a boilover as they tested the top team in the competition before going down by 7 points in their best performance of the year. The Yr 8&9 Girls made their coach proud in their close 2 point loss, while the Yr8&9 Boys led at half time only to falter near the end. Good performances for their respective teams came from Jarran MacNamara, Lachlan McGuire, Mae Osborne, Stephanie Tay, Simon Foster, Reece Symons and Cody Danielsen-Jensen.
Next week's final round matches are against Wynnum North at Cleveland.
