With half of the teams still undefeated, the finals series beckons for Cleveland High after they nearly swept the games against Wynnum North State High in GBS sport on the weekend.
In soccer, the Senior Boys fought back after conceding an early goal to quickly take the lead and race to a 9 goal win. All team members contributed to the dominant display with player of the match Viktor Huels scoring an outstanding six goals. The Junior Boys were awesome, with their disciplined midfield and a great team work sealing the game at 14-0. A superbly constructed goal in which every player contributed before a classy finish from Jamie Wilson, was the highlight of the game.
The undefeated Senior Girls are sure to be the team to beat in the up coming finals, after they continued to keep their opposition scoreless in coming away with a convincing 4 – 0 victory. The Junior Girls fought a very important and tough battle ensuring they remained top of the table. Coby Imber scored the first and only goal of the game with a brilliant shot from outside the eighteen yard box just before half time. With no substitutions, pure athleticism and determination, and outstanding defence from Tylah Benfer ensured that the girls kept their opposition scoreless.
In Volleyball, the Junior Boys had a convincing 3 sets to nil victory on the back of great serving by all the team. Kieren Edmunds played a consistent game displaying ability beyond his years whilst Blake Singleton led from the front of the court. The undefeated Senior Boys once again outclassed their opposition winning a convincing 3 sets to Nil. Jack Sommerfield produced some exceptional spiking and with Jacob Johnson contributing well in the backcourt the team that is yet to drop a set this season.
The Senior Girls Netball team enjoyed their first victory this season with a convincing 31-16 win. Emma McMullen dominated at Goal Shooter whilst Courtney Matthews comfortably controlled the middle of the court. The Junior Girls were not so lucky going down 22-13 despite consistent hard work and determination by Mikaela Wynne.
Next weeks rescheduled games see Cleveland at home against Kenmore in the last round before the finals. With numerous Cleveland High teams in finals positions, the final round will be one to watch! |
