Five of the 8 Cleveland teams look destined for the finals after big wins against Ferny Grove in Round 4 of GBS Sport
The boys Volleyball teams didn’t concede a set in their wins. The Juniors started strongly and then maintained good serving and better control to stifle the opposition fightback. Neil Henderson scored many points on serve and with strong attacks at the net, while Scott Commadeur also played well. The Seniors demolished their opponents with superior attacking from Chad Wilkinson and Nick Edmunds to dismantled any resistance. Good all court play from Jack Sommerfeld maintained the pressure. After not losing a set in a powerful game against Macgregor on Monday, they have confirmed their status as premiership favourites.
In Soccer the Senior Girls again exerted their dominance early and shot out to a 5 goal lead by half time. They then showed level heads and good control to hold off a fight back to win by 6 in an excellent team game. The Junior Girls also scored 7 in their comprehensive display after Kayla Burns opened the scoring in the first minute following slick midfield work. Jaime Lee maintained her excellent form with 3 goals well supported up front by Ella Durbidge.
The under strength Junior Boys played disciplined and attractive football to romp away to an 8 nil win. Arthur Brown starred to score 4 while Billy Janthorp also scored with a classy chip. The Senior Boys went down by one after conceding 2 early goals. While hard work by Brenton Raes and Charlie Close helped control possession, they couldn’t find the winners in a great comeback.
The Netballers again went down against stronger and taller opposition. The Juniors battled on well after 2 injuries in the first quarter, with Jami Parr again shining, while Bianca Onslow played well against strong defence for the Seniors.
Next weeks matches see Cleveland away against Wynnum North before the rescheduled round 1 match on September 6th. |
