The regular round fixtures for GBS fizzled to an end on Saturday against Kenmore High as only one match went ahead after the winds and rain of the previous days.
The senior Girls Netball team fought well in difficult conditions before closing their season with a disappointing loss. With possession shared evenly early, controlling the passes and converting shots in the blustery conditions was difficult for both teams. Unfortunately, Kenmore settled more quickly and found a reliable shooter to stretch out to a comfortable lead. Tamieka Jones led by example with good control and persistent pressure on the opposition.
With 4 teams making the finals at Macgregor hopes are high for a bus load of trophies from next weekend.
The Senior Boys volleyball team is the hottest favourite against Macgregor after being unchallenged in the GBS matches and a strong showing in the recent State Championships. Consistency and control are a hallmark of their game, but powerful attacking from Luke Atkins, Chad Wilkinson and Lachy Mann is expected to dominate the opposition.
The Senior Girls Soccer also looks set for a win after not conceding a goal for the season. They play Ferny Grove and after winning by 6 in the early round should be confident that Kirsty McMaster and Emily Gielnik can lead their talent laden team to a title.
The other 2 games seem more up in the air as the Junior Girls and Boys Soccer teams face Albany Creek and Kenmore respectively.
The Junior Girls had an exciting one all draw last time against Albany Ck and this shapes as the match of the finals. Coby Imber and Danielle Stanley will lead the girls in a game that should go down to the wire.
The Junior Boys are in unknown territory as they face Kenmore – their match was cancelled in the minor round. Both teams are undefeated and while Cleveland hasn’t conceded a goal, Kenmore has scored more. Steve Ardouin and Arthur Brown are expected to be the most damaging in a game that could go either way. |
